Visiting Hess

We are currently open by appointment only while we make repairs to our visitors center and the Hess Art Museum which sustained limited damage due to the Napa earthquake. We anticipate returning to a more robust schedule in late September, so please check back for the latest update.

Wine tastings are being offered in some lovely areas around our scenic property during this beautiful time of the year here on Mount Veeder. Please make reservations, taste some wine and enjoy a truly wine, elevated experience.

Note: While we are under construction parts of the art collection will be unavailable for viewing through late September, 2015. Please call our Visitor Center at 707.255.1144 to inquire about the status of the exhibit, as well as wine tours and tasting.

The Hess Collection was founded by Swiss entrepreneur Donald Hess, who first purchased vineyards on Mount Veeder in 1978. Located in the historic stone winery originally constructed in 1903 by Colonel Theodore Gier, the winery first opened to the public in 1989. The winery has earned international recognition for its wine, culinary and visitor programs while providing free public access to Donald Hess’ extensive private contemporary Art Museum.

Known as a leader in sustainable practices, The Hess Collection adheres to founder Donald Hess’ philosophy: “Nurture the land; return what you take.” The winery is best known for its flagship Mount Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay wines and single vineyard designates from our estate vineyards in Napa Valley.
